How it works

Healthy weight is usually expressed as a range rather than a single target. Factors such as muscle mass, body composition, age and frame size can all influence what is healthy for an individual.

This calculator uses the BMI healthy range of 18.5 to 24.9 to estimate the weight range that corresponds to your height. It also shows estimates from three established medical formulas — Devine, Robinson and Miller — which were developed using different research populations.

Because these formulas use different assumptions, they naturally produce slightly different results. That is normal and expected. No single number suits everyone, and anywhere within the healthy range can be appropriate depending on your build and lifestyle.

BMI is a useful screening tool but does not distinguish between muscle and fat. Athletes or very muscular individuals may weigh more than their BMI range while still being healthy. Always consider overall health, energy levels and wellbeing rather than focusing on one number.
